Tossing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium

September 12, 2016

Steve Berry threw the publishing world a curve—or maybe a fastball—on September 7 when he tossed out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium.  It was quite a night.  In honor of his father, Harold Earl “Sam” Berry who played professional baseball in the late 1940s and early 1950s, Steve wore a Yankees’ jersey with the number 17, the number his dad wore during his playing years. His father was there, on the field, as was his brother, Bob Berry, who played baseball for Auburn University and his nephew, Grant Berry, who currently plays baseball for Columbus State College.  And, most important, the pitch went right over the plate.  A strike.  Click here to see a video as it happened.
