Steve was contacted recently by The Washington Post about the March 1493 letter from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella that is up for auction at Christie’s. In the letter, Columbus described his impressions of a group of islands he had landed on that he believed were near the Indian Ocean. Steve said, “It’s kind of like when Neil Armstrong stepped off the ladder and started talking about the powder of the lunar surface and how his boots stuck down. He’s giving you a description of everything he’s seeing in this strange new world.”
